Tom, The 340 was built both as a Farmall 340 and as a International 340 in both gas and diesel. The D166 engine you refer to is basicly four cylinders of the same six cylinder diesel engine series used in the 460, 560, early 706, and others. It has glow plug pre combustion chambers and is 3 11/16 x 3 7/8 with a 19.7 to 1 compression ratio. It is rated at 2000 rpm and was tested in Nebraska test # 775 with 36.25 db hp and 38.93 pto hp.
