Just curious here; does anyone know if the codes on 22-36 pistons and sleeves were date codes, size variants, or something else?
Both the original and new ones I put in are Rev D; however, the pistons & sleeves in the original were also stamped A, so were the pistons (which had a B stamp, but clearly stamped over A) while the new ones stamped D.
One of the new sleeves had a flat side [must have been a defective one, fell off the truck, or was run over, or something] and was not going to take a piston..... maybe there is some pursuation that would have made it round again, but I had prepped two old sleeves that were in my comfort level anyway [slight visual scoring after honing, but nothing you could feel; maybe .012 over; ridge reamer took care of the top - but I didn't recall them being so hard!], so just dropped one of them in instead.
Anyway, the new piston feels great in there, and nothing really measured different from what I could tell, so was just curious what the marks indicated.
Oh, it's no longer decapitated, but would likely appreciate a manifold and carb.
I lubed the ring compressor [I know you don't need it, but using that from the top, I could just shove ringless pistons right up, instead of applying the little extra force the taper required with rings on] good with some 10wt, and it shows on the sleeves; yet enough ring drag, I need the crank to turn it (pulling the crankshaft through the handholes does still, do it, but my face likely turns purple): I think the rings will seat great. Oh, music to my ears too hearing air come out the sparkplug holes when cranked. Not a surprise - I do have more faith in my work than that  but when it showed up here, I tried the aircompressor on each piston, and air came out so many directions at once I didn't know what was up [6 open valves, and cross talk for at least two if not all three locations].
