Hi John: I also just bought an IH-340 Utility. I have steering problems (serious!) I just had an entire steering gear assembly shipped to me from Canada since mine is shot. My machine also had a lot of "play" in the steering. Mine is a 1960 with power steering. I assume yours also has power steering. I would srongly suggest you get a service manual for the tractor and check out the adjustments that can be made on the steering gear assembly. I doubt if your problems are in the tie-rods or other linkage parts. Email me if you would like further info. For what it's worth, I like my 340 BUT am finding parts hard to come by.
