H 12 volt conversion alternator

My H was converted by the previous owner to 12V using a Delco-Remy alternator. The alternator bracket is mounted where the generator was which is fine, except the engine bonnet or hood won't close because of the size of the alternator. Anybody got an idea on a substitute alternator that will be smaller and fit there with the cover closed? I don't mind using an alternator made for anything, as long as it fits and charges. I really don't want to go authentic and back to the generator and voltage reg. Thanks, RK Smith
