This is unlikely, but don't rule it out.... My Super A threw two pushrods off the valvetrain followers (due to gross misadjustment after an engine rebuild), and was running on two cylinders, and dragging the other two along. Additionally, the starter was working very hard to crank two dragging cylinders under compression. Needless to say, I discovered this while adjusting the valves, and when I reconnected the pushrods, the engine cranked much more quickly and had 3x the power. If you suspect this (wierd/bad compression readings), then check the valve adjustment. Later, when I had cranking problems, it was a bad ground to the battery box, which I solved by wirebrushing the box mounts, inserting star-tooth washers, and greasing all contact points with silicone grease.
