Dads M Farmall

Looking at my dads M today.'42 model.Two strange things on the motor.One is on the carb side there is a small plate just below and toward the back of the carb,two screws hold in place.Anothr is on the same side(I think)is a place that kinda sticks out a little with what looks to me like a small freeze plug.Anybody know what these are?Also,I have been told some later model Ms have a freeze plug behind the timing cover.Is this true.I have been trying to figure out why my M gets oil in the water and yes the obvious has been done.Im lost on that on.HELP.Thanks RED Blooded
