I cant tell you exactly without looking at an M.
I dont have an M. I can find them by looking at one though. The numbers are only about 1/4" high.
My buddie has a Super M that is missing the tag
and we were trying to figure out the year on it.
It has been a while ago but here is the best I can do from memory: Trans case on the RH side near the brake drum, Front gas tank bracket in the middle as viewed from the side-cant remember which side, upper front bolster middle of the top
section where the shaft goes through (have to remove grille to see),Engine block RH side above the distributor and below the head. All of the larger castings have them on including the wheels.
The date codes will have what looks like a screw or rivet on either side of the numbers. That is because they were metal tags screwed to the pattern when the part was cast. After you find one and know what to look for, they become easy to find. I like looking at the date codes on tractors at shows to learn more about them.

The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac. ... [Read Article]
