Cub PTO problem

I'm going to look at an older cub this weekend ,it has a woods mower and cultivators with it.It runs good but pto kicks out when mowing.A friend said it's a minor problem with the engauge mechinism . What is it worth? Any thoughts or ideas would be appricated. He is asking 1000.00 for it , I think it is a 50's model. Thanks ,Wayne
