Detergent type oil will dissolve all, if any, of the sludge built up in your engine and hold it in suspension until it gets filtered out by the oil filter. As John said, keep changing the oil and filter every ten hours of operation or when the oil becomes black and gunky looking. Always change the oil when the engine is at or near normal operating temperature or the sludge will settle out of suspension and deposit itself back in the bottom of the oil pan and try to block up the screen on the pickup tube for the oil pump. This would NOT be a good thing, so keep the oil clean and pretty soon your engine will be clean on the inside again. If you're curious, remove the rocker cover from the engine and see what's up around the top end (rocker arms, valve springs, etc.) and that'll give you a good idea of what kind of condition the engine is in sludge wise. Sludge always seems to build up around the rocker arm area first, probably because of the lower flow in that area and lower temperature too. Phil
