A freind of mine has a 230 and he just went through this. Have your starter rebuilt then you know what you have, your tractor will look better with delco on it. He put in a new starter ring, they are not that high through IH dealer, I think he said twenty some dollars. He did the work so it can't be to bad to split a 230, if you have a small hoist and stands you can do the job yourself.
