The C/SC grills have their outside lower edges cut at about a 45deg angle to clear the front bolster, while the A/SA grills do not. Also the SC grills are about an inch taller than a C grill, which you notice between the lowest bar in the center section and the seam to the bottom section of the grill. Either of these differences could cause the grill to not set back in place properly.
But if you think you do have the right grill, just look for obstructions. Some of them are pretty tight to get around the radiator and into place. Perhaps the brace that the lower section bolts to is bent and keeping the grill from seating all the way?
