Maybe I'm missing the point of the question, but before the hydraulic assist became standard on tractors, the drawbar-type moldboard plows had an eccentric mechanism in one of the wheel hubs. The driver pulled a cable which tripped the eccentric mechanism. The motion of the wheel then caused the eccentric to either lift the plowshares out of the ground, or drop them into the ground. There was also usually an adjusting lever on top of the plow that set the plowing depth in the "low" position. Some plows would only "lift" or "drop" when rolling forward, and some would also "lift" while rolling in reverse, making it easier to get out if you got bogged down. FYI...I own a B and I plan to add 3-point to it someday, but it looks like a lot of work.
