Poor man's way of fitting the cam bearings: Install the camshaft as far as it will go. Take it back out and inspect for shiny spots on the bearings. This is where the camshaft is touching. Use a pocket knife to scrape a little of the bearing material on those spots. Repeat as necessary until the camshaft is fully inserted and turns easily by hand.
When you get close, where the camshaft will go in but not turn easily, you can tap on the shaft toward the shiny area to deform the bearing enough to free it up. It usually doesn't take too much to get them to fit.
