Just read your post about the hard starting Cub and, oddly enough I've had a similar problem and again oddly enough everyone else seems to have missed the boat..... The Cub is definately a positive ground machine. So since you said you had it connected neg. ground that explains why it would start off of a full battery but not on the used one. I also have a suspicion that your battery cables are not up to snuff. If it'll start with full voltage but is to slow without then you might not be getting all for your power so to speak... Forget the 12 volt, turn that battery the right way and get mowing... Oh, you might consider replacing the voltage regulator that having the battery in backwards probably trashed...
