Joshua, I converted my 1951 H a few years ago with the help of several folks here on the forum using Bob M's wiring diagrams. No hood modifications or idler pulleys are required and alternator mounts in same location as the generator on the original bracket. I'm a very "picky" kind of person with appearance and would be more then happy to share everything you need to do using the Hitachi 14231 alternator which fits almost like it was made for the H. I documented the entire conversion and have it in a note I can forward to you if you like.
