I spent the whole morning taking my time on the head and the valves. All the headbolts around #2 and #3 had loosened up a tad but not much. The two center bolts between #1-2 and #3-4 were somewhat loose. The front and back bolts were on the nose. Now on the valve clearances. #1 exhaust was not closing. Clearances on #2 and #3 were way too loose. #4 was fairly close but a little loose. This time after the intake valve closed on #1/4 with the starter, I then turned the engine with the crank until the mark was on TDC. Same thing on #2/3 except turning the mark to the bottom by hand. I did this 6 times. Finally the last 2 times on each cylinder the gaps were at .20 on the nose. I think I was passing by full compression when I was setting them at hour 2. Going to buy 2 carbs for $80 and get an IH kit. I figure between the 3 I will get a good carb. I need a spring set for the distributor but it isn't that far off. I am much relieved that this H is finally behaving.
