I find on any brand of tractor that I have the switch goes bad. They don't stay open,but rather over time, the spade prong where the power wire goes on gets rusty and breaks off. I think when they get old there gets a little resistance on the connection and then they get hot which makes them rust faster.
I can show you 2 IH switches like you are talking about, a JD, and an A-C one. Same problem with all three. The old ones with screw type terminals can be tightened and don't give any trouble.
