M misses

I just got a 1950 Farmall "M". It doesn't run too bad but today when I pulled it into the shed I noticed that on each missfire it was shooting flames out through the muffler. Been too busy at work to mess with it very much, but was wondering aside from plugs and timing what should I be looking for as the culpret?
PS only had her home now for three days ..
