You would be able to turn the fan by hand, since it just slips over the fan belt. I was suspicious that you might have overheated the tractor in the beginning. What you described sounded like the symptoms of an overheated engine. Did it ever seem to run hot? It could have been a coil. If you can roll the tractor out of gear, then the differential is not locked up. But, - If the tractor, with no brakes on, and in highest gear, and with the starter removed, and with the switch off for safety - - can not be moved by hand (pushed) on level ground, so that you observe the ring gear turning (therefore the engine, and fan turning) then either the transmission, including the clutch, or the engine is locked up. Right now because you pulled it so much, and said you heard breaking sounds in the area of the clutch housing, and because of the smoke, I think you damaged the clutch and the smoke was from it overheating. I would confirm with someone who is an experienced mechanic and proceed accordingly, (I'm not highly experienced) but I believe your next step is to separate the tractor at the engine - clutch housing area. Then you can remove the plugs and see if you can rotate the ring gear by hand. If so, the engine is not locked up. You'll have to break the tractor apart for the clutch, but I'm not positive you will for any type transmission problem. I don't have a troubleshooting guide or any information on the 350 Utility. One other thing - obviously the ring gear teeth could not get into the engine. Don't know what I was thinking about there. If you are not experienced, and it sounds like you aren't really, then plan to get someone to fix this for you, or be prepared to spend a lot of time and money doing it yourself. Best, RKS

Today's Featured Article - Memories of an IH Super A When I was ? up to 10, I worked on my Papaw's farm in Greeneville, TN every summer. As I grew older (7), it was the thrill of my day to ride or drive on the tractor. My Papaw had a 1954 IH Super A that he bought to replace a Cub. My Papaw raised "baccer" (tobacco) and corn with the Super A, but the fondest memory was of the sawmill. He owned a small sawmill for sawing "baccer" sticks. The Super A was the powerplant. When I was old enough (7 or 8), I would get up early and be dressed to ... [Read Article]
