tom, I have used some of these "new technology" rods. They are more costly then regular steel rods, but not bad. I bought a pack of I think it was 20 1.8" rods specially for cast iron for around $7. They work great, my bro did the welding on my cast ircon exhaust/intake on my 300u. Still holding up great. Ideally a noncracked block would be the solution. This crack looks like it could be structural. Does the superA have frame rails? If it doesnt and the crack is at a point near a mount, I wouldnt trust it. Seems welding cast is ok for nonstructural items. I wouldnt trust it structural unless it was done by a professional with credentials.
