Look at the hub on the injection pump.It has a line on it, line up the top of the pointer that that the 3 bolts go into the drive gear with the line on the hub. The gear has a center zero mark and advance & retard marks either side of the zero mark. Install the pump set pointer at O degre mark. If you have not done anything to the timeing gears you will be on TDC #1. You can line up the mark on the crank pully if you want to but you will already be on no 1 cyl anyway. The service manual says to start the engine, run up to operating temp. Retard the timeing one mark at a time untill you get white puffs of smoke at high idle. Advance one mark at a time untill it is clean at high idle. Usually end up at TDC or slightly on advance side.
