You might be able to do it if you have the ability to cast iron in your garage, which most of us can't. The old head just wouldn't work properly as a direct injection setup. The injector needs to inject straight down into a detent in the top of the piston to create a local pressure large enough to ignite the fuel. The injector on the 282 injects into a pre-compression chamber and then the flame front spreads out into the cylinder. You would need to move the injector nozzles without hitting any coolant, oil, exhaust, or air passages. Then you would need to find an appropriate set of injectors, and lastly, you would need to ensure that there is enough distance between the valve seats and the nozzle so that your head doesn't crack. It would require a lot of work. Just buy a DI tractor if you feel you need it.
