H and M grilles.

I've noticed in some of the early operator manuals,advertisements and sales brochures that there appears to be silver or white paint on the wide bars of the grille.My M owners manual clearly shows a front shot of an M with shifting gang cultivators,the wide portions of the grille are white or silver. Anyone know the signifigance of that?It doesn't appear in later publications.
