Hydro tractors will be able to hold that exact speed indefinitely. We had a 656, and it worked great for spraying. You could run any engine rpm or pto rpm while maintaining the exact same ground speed. We used to be able to get the spray on almost exactly to what we had calculated the field should need. I can't think of any gear drive tractor that could run at 1/16 of a mph at 2200 engine rpm!! Hydros that are in good shape are great tractors, but be wary of ones that are in bad shape. When the charge pump failed on our 656, the dealer quoted us more than the tractor was worth, so we were forced to sell it to a junkyard, as no one wanted the thing. Also, don't use it for heavy tillage loads or a good hydro will quickly become garbage. Lastly, change the fluid at least once a year and the filter EVERY YEAR if you work it. The Hydro transmission puts a TON of heat and stress on the fluid (since it is what is transferring power from the crankshaft to the wheels) and so, will cause the fluid to break down. That is what kills a ton of hydro's.
