Hi Tom, like JB said, may be the pump lost his prime. Under the filter, it have a pipe,it's the steering supply, loose the fitting and place a container fot the oil, start the engine and check for oil flow at the fitting. Stop engine when flow is come. When the pump is worn, it's harder to prime the system. Bernard le mécano
