I'm planning to do the same swap in an H over the summer, GLWATCDR [Good Lord Willin' And The Creek Don't Rise]. ChadS over on the tractor pulling board on this site is a good info source for that swap. Keep in mind that what you want to use the tractor for will have a lot to do with what's the "right" way to set up the swap. A parade tractor won't require as tough a trans setup as a working farm tractor or a puller. Just remember, the truck six redlines at 3600 rpm, and the original H/M engines were governed at about half that...so, unless you do something for gear reduction [which automatically gets you torque multiplication] your ground speed in each gear will double at full throttle. If you can get around a 2:1 gear reduction going into the transmission, you'll bring your ground speeds back to the normal range AND double the engine torque going into the transmission. ChadS told me that the 460 thru 806 side rails will work for this swap, although I haven't found a set yet at a price I'm willing to pay [the cheaper the better]. I'm still working out parts details before I put the wrench to the tractor, so I'll find out a lot more as I go. [The H has been sitting since Dad died in 1991, with the engine apart...so there's no particular rush now.] Hope some of this info is helpful.
