I tried something like that in 1994. On July 4th we were shooting those light duty fireworks which is all you can get legally in Ky. The neighbor had gone to Tennessee and got some good ones, well being me and trying to keep up with the Jones's I got my steel post driver loaded it with black powder tamped in a little news paper put in one of those cheap devices and ignited it with a firecracker installed in a hole I drilled in the bottom of the driver. When it went off it sounded like a dud. The projectile only went 20 to 25 feet in the air. This didn't suit me so I doubled the powder and wadding and went again. This time it was like a land mine going off. It turned the driver into shrapnel and shook the ground leaving a crater 8 inches deep and 3 feet around. The next morning I found chunks of steel stuck in trees and the siding on my house. We were lucky nobody was hurt or killed. I have not played with this stuff since.
