Been there, done that. I've filled up several 30 yard dumpsters full of scrap metal in the process of cleaning this old farm up. Here's what I figure: I don't want to give anything to the scrap man that could potentially be worth more than its scrap value. I also don't want to get rid of anything that is rare or unique, becasue once its gone, its gone. So, for all of the stuff I'm not sure whether or not it has any value besides scrap, I take the time to take some good photos and write up a good description, and put it on EBay with the starting bid as its scrap value. If it sells, then at least I know the person who bought it isn't going to trun right around and scrap it, that they must be buying it to keep. And EBay ads are relatively cheap and pain-free.
