New Old Stock parts are parts that were new (at one time) and have never been installed on someone's equipment. Most parts classified as NOS are parts that are no longer available from a dealer. Before the days of "just-in-time" inventory, the dealers carried (owned?) a lot of parts stock, and when a dealer went out of business, they would auction off remaining parts stocks. I assume that is where most NOS parts came from. NOS also usually means that the parts are in the original packages, but not exclusively. I recently bought a part at a show that had no signs of ever being installed, but some of the paint had come off. The seller wasn't calling it NOS, but he probably could have. Hope this helps.
