Bob, These little Farmalls do make a fair amount of gear noise and that is normal. I've been around them since I was a kid and I have a certain expectation, based on years of experience, of what one should sound like. As long as it sounds "normal" to me, I don't even notice the noise. The problem is I don't know how to describe the sound, or how loud that it is, and I can't hear your tractor over the internet. I suggest that you find somebody locally who has some experience with Farmall A's, & B's and have them run it and listen to it. It would be a far more informed opinion than anything you can get here.
