I've gotten quite a few old engines running that have been sitting. Remember they need three things Air, Spark, Fuel. I first disconnect the air filter. Then check the oil. It it looks very clean, don't let it fool you. The junk settles out over time and I have had to poke a hole through the carbon to get it to drain. Next pull the plugs, add a little squirt of oil. try to rotate it with the starter. Check and see if there is spark. I use a lawn mower gas tank and a rubber hose to the carb to eliminate old gas and junk in the tank and they usually run to some degree. I have been known to run them a short while with ATF for engine oil then drain them out and put fresh oil in, to clean them up.
