I don't think its anything to do with wires etc. There are two jets in the carb idle jet and main jet, It runs good on the idle but won't run on the main. Id say the main jet is plugged/needle buggered up or bent, rubber seal flaked and plugging it, etc. Thats where I would look first. Also, a bad gasket will eliminate the vacuum. Not likely but worth keeping an eye out for. Clean the carb with a good soaking carb cleaner then blow out the lines or try a pipe cleaner. You many need a kit.
