W-30 thermostat removal ?

Guys - After a boil-over last summer while my W-30 was on the Baker fan for a while, I've deduced that the thermostat is not functioning. I also understand new ones are not available. Can I simply take it out, or are there other ramifications that I need to consider? Thanks !
