As others said, likely your 4/5th sliding gear is worn out. That is the one that has splines on the inside to mate with the small gear on the tranny input gear. These are frequently worn due to grinding gears to shift from 4th to 5th. I'd suggest getting a new one. Good used ones are not so easy to come by, as many have the same problem. Pretty big job to fix, as the main drive shaft has to be disconnected and the bearing cage and transmission input shaft have to be removed from the front of the transmission. Also easier if the transmission top is removed, although some say this can be done by just removing the belt pulley assembly. The problem could also be caused by a bad pilot bearing in the transmission. While you have the thing apart, probably best to replace that anyway.
