I noticed you said "I think I know the big floor "plate" your talking about." The word "floor" jumps out at me. It is not the cab floor plate you want to be taking off. Take off the plate that the tractor end of you 3-point hitch top link pins to at the very rear of the tractor. This will allow you to reach inside of the rear end housing.
