Older tractors had generators instead of alternators. So when the regulator or generator wires are re-connected you have to polarize the generator by placing a jump wire forn the BAT to the GEN connections for 2 seconds. You'll see a spark which is ok. Not doing this will cause the regulator contacts to fuse together so you're always draining the battery.
