Good for you it's running. Unfortunately, you may have solved a long term problem with a short term new coil. It is very important that you review where the resistor is in relationship to the hot lead to the coil. This is not clear from your post. The resistor must be in series between the coil and positive battery voltage or pos alt output. It seems to be most convenient then to connect it to the "dead side switch." [[If your resistor is between the battery and the "hot side of the switch," it is wrong, but would work ok as long as the alt "BAT" terminal was connected directly to the pos terminal of the battery or anywhere between the battery and the resistor (but not between the resistor and switch)]] Both the battery pos voltage and the alt "BAT" terminal **must be** on the "opposite" side of the resistor from the coil, or the new coil may eventually fail.
