Reinstalling PTO and Shift Lever

Anyone have experience reinstalling the PTO shaft and shift lever on a 2424 IH? My shift lever was not engaging the PTO, the shifter fell off (pin sheared off). I'm in the process of putting it all togeather, but not sure how. Question: How do you line up the clutch (end of the PTO shaft) and shifter (end of the shift lever)? I can't get the shifter pin in the grove of the clutch.
