Since you didn't have any fire from cleaning the points you may have a weak coil or the magnets in the magneto may have lost their magnetism. Here's a picture of an old Wico mag with the magnets exposed and they have lost their magnetism. The magnets creates the hot spark when they pass by the coil. Even with the impulse coupling not snapping you should see some fire. Hal
