I used to own a 1256 that had similar problems shortly after a clutch and torque overhaul. My mechanic said it was probably a bad o-ring on the oil suction tube that feeds the pump from the rear end oil supply. The best cure short of re-splitting the tractor was to add about 5-6 extra gallons of Hy-tran to the resivour. This will keep the pump from sucking air by flooding the bad o-ring in oil.
