I just got a 51 H and am learing about the letter series myself)all my previous tractors were made in the 20s or 30s), but I am a die hard carb guy and have yet to have one stump me (either lucky or blessed) If the needle valve was sticking it was either due to gum or corrosion. if it was gum, take out the needle and seat and clean them very well with a good carb cleaner, but don't use anything metal to do the cleaning(wire brush ect). If it was corrosion, get a carb kit and put that in. Also make sure the float is not rubbing the side of the float bowl. I have seen a few mangled floats that rubbed and caused sticking. Good luck with it.
