Farmall A PTO question

I recently had a problem with trying to get a belt pulley off of a 90 degree angle PTO shaft. The compression ring crumbled and basically left me stuck with the pulley on the shaft with no way to get it off. I finally got around to heating the compression ring with a torch and using a hammer I got the pulley off....the pulley and the PTO look okay BUT the PTO turns hard by hand. I am not sure exactly what I have done. These seem simple enough mechanically. I have taken it apart to lube the bearings with hard grease but after tightening the bolts it turns harder than it should. By heating the PTO, did I somehow warp the bearings? Do I need to replace them? Suggestions?
