Tom, please take it back quick. You'll get Red on a crying jag if you start speaking about "c-cc-cutting" 50 year old Farmall sheet metal. It'll work without it. Put the alt on and button down the two latches on the other side and the back one on the alter side. Turn the front one to the outside of the sheet metal so it won't get into the blades of the alternator, and put some insulating material (glue it) on the outside of the alternator and just let the hood rest against it. That's a good as a cut-out, don't you think? Maybe Red's taking a nap and hasn't noticed yet. Cheers, RKS
