Farmall M, SuperM 450 Starters

Well I got a good story for you. I have a 450 that I bought from the neighbor with a knock in it. I was going to part it out but come to find out it was the cam gear that broke that was knocking. Well, I had a 450 cam gear and so I replaced it. However the neighbor stole the starter for it for his 400 before I bought it. I went to build one using the nose cone off a 281 CID power unit engine and found out that the nose cone on a 281 CID power unit is different form a 400 or 450. The starter drive will not mesh with the ring gear. So I put the power unit starter back on the shelf and bought a nose cone from a guy for 20 bucks and now I have a 450 to sell. The story gets better, I have a SMD that I bought in pieces with a locked up M gas motor in it. I decided to get rid of a bunch of parts and built up an M motor to put in it and test run. Well I don't have a starter. NO PROBLEM! For just a test tractor I take my Dad's extra 450 Starter off the shelf and use it. (We have 5 400/450 tractors in the family) It won't work I found out the 450 starter keeps the starter drive gear just close enough to the ring gear to make a nasty grinding noise and that is it. Well once I figured that out, I thought of that &!#*@ power unit nose cone that I wasted all that time with and how it kept the starter drive to low so that it could not get up on the ring gear of a 450. By golly that @$@4#$@#$ power unit nose cone is that same as a Super M. That is what I learned this weekend. Oh and my M motor with 4" IH fire craters, new valves and seats and guides in the head runs great. I will do a final tune and dyno test/breakin this weekend. How much is an engine like this worth? I have a Super M gas engine I am eventually going to build and put in this SMD and make it into a Super M even though it is ending up being a SMD - SM - M Hybrid. Iguess I can ask a lot of money for a Hybrid tractor. :-)
