I have two Super A's and have owned four in total. Unless you depress the clutch and wait several seconds, in most cases it is going to grind. You need to depress the clutch and wait for the gears to stop spinning. The gears are not synchronized in these old tractors. You have to wait for them to stop turning. I will say this: the grinding seems to be more prevalent if the tractor is equipped with a Rockford clutch. However, the Rockford is such a superior clutch to the Auburn, it is worth the minor delay. mike
