666 transmission linkage

I just bought a 666 Diesel and have a lot of slop in the transmission linkages. It got stuck in two gears, on the way home going up the drive.(Thanks to all those who posted on that topic) It was stuck up in the shifter behind the panel. My question is how difficult is it to tear the shifter down and rebuild it. And is there any particular problem areas to be aware of. I'm going to start with the top and later fix the linkage down below the battery plate.
