Original 6-Volt or 12-Volt? If original 6-Volt (+) ground, be SURE you are matching the charger lead polarity to the (+) and (-) marks at the battery POSTS. Also, if you are using a modern "smart charger", typically, they will not turn on and charge a flat-dead battery. A quick "boost" from and appropriate good battery will bring the battery voltage up enough for the charger to kick in and finish the job. Or, the battery may simply be "shot".
