You can get the broken piece out with a bobby pin. Take the pin and cut it at the center of the "head". Use the straight side of the pin, throw the rest away. Now trim the center rounded end less and less until it will slip down along the back side of the broken piece, not the tooth side. It will "hook" around the tip of the key and you can usually pull it out.
