Erick - Could be either the gen or regulator. Next time the ammeter flatlines, run the engine at 1/2 throttle and jumper the regulator base to a good ground (the grounded battery terminal is best). If the ammeter now shows charge, clean up the regulator ground. If the above does nothing jumper regulator FLD (or F) terminal to ground and while watching the ammeter. If still no charge jumper the regulator GEN and BAT (or G and B) terminals while watching the ammeter. If neither of the above causes the ammeter to show charge, replace the regulator. However if still no charge, the generator is the problem. Be looking for a worn out brush, a sticking brush holder, a broken brush pigtail, etc.
