your system must have a leak somewhere for the batt to go dead unless the batt is bad. check the cells with a hydrometer to see condition. you dont have to do anything when going to an 8v batt as it will keep the batt up in good shape. i know of a couple that run 8v batts and they never have any problems they all just bought an 8v batt stayed with the pos ground and have been that way for several years.
